Odds and ends from the anchorhold

I was reviewing the Rule for Anchoresses from the 14th century - indeed, then as now, no one truly understood the vocation. Others queued up to gossip (making the anchorhold second only to the tavern for that purpose.) What a temptation it must have been for the anchoress - halfway mad, at times, with the isolation.

Yet those in the Middle Ages valued those dedicated to the life of prayer, if only because they were considered useful intercessors.

This 'blog' business is quite awkward fo me, but I am hoping that, with regular additions, I may expand the information which was initially developed in my site.
